High porosity hair care

High porosity hair care

High porosity  hair can  be inherited genetically or it can be a result of damage from chemical processing, Heat damage,  harsh  treatment or environmental damage. High porosity hair has gaps and holes in the cuticle, which let too much moisture into your hair leaving the hair prone  to tangling and frizzing in humid weather. Due to the nature of  highly porous hair, even a simple act of shampooing, swimming and bathing can lead to more damage and breakage.

Tips on how to take care of high porosity

Minimize Heat

Since heat opens the cuticles, it is best to stay away from heat to avoid making already opened cuticles even more porous. If the cuticles become too porous, this can cause extreme damage to your hair.

Cold Rinsing

Just as heat will open the cuticles, rinsing with cold water will help to close the cuticles. This will add shine and keep moisture in your hair, especially when you apply a sealant . Try Veravana normal  to  High Porosity Super Growth And Sealant oil

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple cider vinegar is especially helpful in returning your hair to a neutral pH and closing the cuticles. Mix apple cider vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio and rinse your hair with it after washing  or use Veravana High Porosity Herbal Cleansing Shampoo specifically designed  to gently cleanse  without stripping the hair off it natural oil.

Protein Treatments

Protein treatments can help to hydrate your hair and provide moisture. For best results, apply protein treatment to clean, damp hair, allowing the protein to fill the openings in the cuticles and strengthen them. Protein is great for water retention, allowing moisture to enter your hair and smooth it. Note that if you have coarse hair, you probably do not need as much protein because your hair already has an abundant source of protein. As such, if you are still using a protein treatment, it is advisable to do it less frequently or for a shorter duration. Try Veravana High Porosity Moisture lock deep Conditioner specifically designed to lock in moisture and repair  damaged cuticles.

Deep Conditioning Treatments

Deep conditioners can also be useful for high porosity hair since they moisturize and strengthen the cuticles. However, do not sit under heat when deep conditioning because heat opens the cuticles and makes your hair more porous. To do deep conditioning, apply deep conditioner to damp or slightly damp hair and let it set for 10-15 minutes. Rinse when done, after which you can perform the next solution, cold rinsing. Deep conditioning treatments can be done according to your hair condition – suggested frequencies are once a week, or biweekly. Try Veravana  High Porosity Moisture Lock  Deep Conditioner.
